Catalyst Education provides digital learning platforms that improve learning outcomes and persistence in STEM courses to deliver the caliber of innovators the world needs.  The company’s founders have taught lecture and lab courses at major institutions and have also been responsible for launching many market-leading higher education STEM learning platforms.  This includes Sapling Learning, a market-leading STEM online homework platform for lecture courses currently used by 1mm+ students per year.  An entity affiliated with HFI was the first outside investor in Sapling Learning and was the largest shareholder in the company when it was sold to Macmillan Learning in 2012.  When Sapling Learning’s founder (James Caras) left Macmillan to start Catalyst Education, he reached out to HFI about a potential investment.  HFI believes strongly in quality management teams and was excited to be the first outside investor in James’ new venture.  HFI has one seat on the company’s board of directors.
